Bone Marrow – Food choices to keep in mind

We all hear and read Bone marrow transplantation or Health issues that arises due to unhealthy bone marrow

What is bone marrow??

Bone marrow is the spongy tissue inside some of the bones in the body, including the hip and thigh bones. Bone marrow contains immature cells, called stem cells.

Healthy bone marrow and blood cells are needed in order to live. When disease affects bone marrow so that it can no longer function effectively, a marrow or cord blood transplant could be the best treatment option; for some patients it is the only potential cure.

Food also plays an important role, it also helps increase bone marrow are as given below:

  • Red meat such as beef, and organ meatBeans
  • Legumes
  • Egg yolk
  • Dry fruits
  • Green leafy fruits such as spinach, raisins, and many more
  • High calcium foods
  • Include Vitamin D and Vitamin K
  • Fruits such as strawberries, papaya , also all the citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, and grapefruit
  • Broccoli and sprouts.

Disease – Healthy bone and blood cells are needed for life. There are some of the causes of bone marrow diseases are mostly genetics or environmental factors. To know the causes, blood tests and bone marrow tests are done.

Below are a few diseases that may occur due to lower bone marrow

Blood cancer (Leukemia) – It happens when the bone marrow makes abnormal white blood cells.

Aplastic Anemia – It happens when the bone marrow does not make enough red blood cells.

Lymphoma – It affects the production of blood cells.

Myeloproliferative disorder – It happens when bone marrow develops too many white blood cells.

Hence it is important to include right kind of food to prevent forthcoming health issues. We take food as just a source of energy but it is what is eat decides how our health will shape up.
