I recently met a client who gets bloated three times her normal stomach size. She wasn’t sure what was the issue. She was so afraid of bloating that she restricted eating or will force puke after eating. I explained her not to worry, it’s not a disease rather it is a certain food items that are causing this. Like many people become lactose intolerant after a certain age, we may develop food irritation with time.
Lets understand what is FODMAP
It stands for Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides, and Polyols. This is a scientific term used to classify groups of carbohydrates that triggers digestive symptoms like bloating, gas and stomach pain.
It is especially for those who get blotting after eating a certain food item. This includes a surprising number of people, particularly those with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). FODMAPs are a group of fermentable carbohydrates. They are notorious for causing common digestive issues like bloating, gas, stomach pain, diarrhea and constipation in those who are sensitive to them.
So if you are one of those who gets bloated easy, try this. Restrict the food items high on FODMAP and eat the ones low on FODMAP.

Wow, I’ve never heard of FODMAP before, but it makes sense. Is it sad that I love all of the foods on the FODMAP side of the chart 😅
