In layman’s terms, metabolism is the rate at which your body burns calories. If your metabolism is fast/high, you will burn more calories at rest and during activity and vice versa. Since it’s related to Weight loss there is so much of information around on it. However, not all of them are true. Let’s busy some popular myths related to Weight loss and metabolism.
1. YOU SHOULD COMPLETELY CUT CARBS FROM YOUR DIET
Another popular metabolism myth is that you should completely eliminate carbohydrates from your diet to maximise your metabolism.
While it’s true that cutting out processed carbs and increasing your protein intake can give your metabolism a kick, cutting out all carbohydrates is not a good idea,
Natural carbohydrates such as fruits and vegetables not only provide your body with energy and numerous health boosting nutrients but they’re also rich in metabolism boosting fibre
So by all means cut out the processed carbs but make sure you’re still eating fruits and vegetables.
2. TYPE OF FOOD YOU EAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS
Many people believe that if they eat certain metabolism boosting foods, the calories will start to magically melt away
While it’s true that certain foods are more effective than others at boosting your metabolism, these foods are not magic bullets and you still need to make sure that you’re keeping your total calorie consumption under control
So for the best results, increase your intake of metabolism boosting foods but don’t use these foods as an excuse to overindulge.
3. EXERCISE ALONE CAN BOOST YOUR METABOLISM
Another prevalent metabolism myth is that you only need exercise to maximise your metabolism
The truth is that a consistent exercise routine which includes both cardiovascular training and resistance training can give your metabolism a kick. However, if you don’t support your exercise routine with a quality diet, it’s not going to make any difference
So by all means fire up your metabolism with exercise but don’t forget about the importance of eating a natural, high quality, nutrient packed diet
